SharePoint’s newest Section Background features will let users personalize their pages
The features will be released in February and April.
Microsoft is set to enhance SharePoint with new Section Background features, coming to the platform in February, and April 2024, according to the latest entries in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap.
The new features will allow users to highly customize and personalize their SharePoint pages. In February, Microsoft will release the Section Background feature to the platform, and it will bring with it a variety of new options and settings that can be used to create featured sections on SharePoint Pages.
Here’s what Microsoft has to say about the feature:
SharePoint now allows you to add an image or gradient color to the sections of the page from a new set of options, including image settings to ensure readability. With this release, we’re providing authors to make beautiful pages with featured sections.

Then, in April 2024, the Redmond-based tech giant will introduce custom images to Section Background, meaning users will be able to customize their SharePoint page with any image they see fit. The feature will also introduce additional settings, such as fill mode, overlay, or opacity, to perfectly set up the SharePoint page background.
Those users who are passionate about graphic design will find these features useful and practical.
SharePoint lets you customize the sections backgrounds with your own image. We’ve enhanced the focal point and introduced more settings like fill mode, overlay, opacity to help you adhere to accessibility best practices and make sure that your contents are clear and readable with customized background. This gives you more power over the image to make your page beautiful.

Section Background transforms SharePoint into a versatile platform for intranet web design
The two features allow for flexibility and customization of SharePoint pages, which is a step ahead in the right direction. This means these pages can now be effectively branded to reflect a company image in the internal network.
Not only that but coupled with the recently released video trim feature, SharePoint could become a versatile platform for intranet web design.
The Section Background features would be used to create the static parts of the page, while the video trim feature would be used to add a bit of animation to the whole page.
