new Microsoft Teams

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that Teams 2.0, aka the new Microsoft Teams, would become the new default client for the platform, and it be released gradually on all platforms.

Well, we have some good news: the new Microsoft Teams is now available everywhere, on every platform, including virtual desktop infrastructure, according to the latest blog post from the Redmond-based tech giant.

Users and admins can now experience and enjoy all the benefits of the new Teams app within their virtual desktops. The new Teams App in VDI has feature parity with classic Teams app and also has improved performance, reliability, and security. Additionally, we are grateful to our committed customers who gave us feedback during public preview, which helped us improve several VDI specific features and enhance the basics to guarantee smooth updates to the new Teams app.

Organizations that use VDI extensively can now enjoy the new version of Microsoft Teams, and it should be the perfect chance to migrate to it if they haven’t already.

Why should organizations and commercial users migrate to the new Microsoft Teams?

There are several reasons why every organization and commercial user should migrate to the new Microsoft Teams. We’ll list below the most important 3 reasons:

A stronger security

The new Microsoft Teams promises enhanced security and protection when it comes to data, meetings, and sharing information. It’s well known that Microsoft products are some of the most popular targets for cyberattacks, with over 80% of the Microsoft 365 accounts being hacked in 2022.

This new version has features such as chat sealing options that might effectively prevent data leaking. Not to mention new ways to detect and eliminate phishing attacks.new Microsoft Teams

Intuitive new design and stronger performance

The new Microsoft Teams employs a new design, but not an overhaul, meaning the platform will be familiar to use for those migrating from classic Teams, but still new enough to provide faster ways to move around the platform.

Plus, Microsoft claims this new version is capable of a stronger performance all around compared to the classic Teams.

The new Teams app will be faster in terms of overall responsiveness, such as launching the app and joining meetings while consuming less memory and disk space than classic Teams. Switching between chats, channels, and activities will be instant, without having to wait for content to load. A fast-scrolling experience is crucial for you to access relevant information quickly and efficiently in the virtualized environment. With the new Teams, we have lowered shimmering and reduced wait times. The preview version of new Teams was up to two times faster while using 50% less memory. With the new Teams app, you can use one installer for both desktop and VDI and have the option to update automatically in VDI.

AI capabilities

Of course, we cannot end this article without mentioning the AI capabilities in Microsoft Teams. The Redmond-based tech giant recently integrated Copilot into Microsoft Teams, and the AI tool could be very useful to a lot of employees.

From finding files to summarizing documents and composing texts and content, Copilot could easily reduce the workload and increase efficiency.

Either way, VDI users will have to migrate to the new Microsoft Teams, eventually, as Microsoft announced the support for classic Teams on VDI will end next year, in June.

The classic Teams in VDI will reach end of support on June 30th, 2024, after which users will not be able to use the classic Teams and will be asked to switch to new Teams app. Therefore, we recommend you update to new Teams today.

So the sooner the migration starts, the better.
