Windows won’t get rid of Teams after all, as upcoming meetings may appear in its Start menu soon
The feature might be optional.
Windows 11 has been out for over 2 years, but only recently has Microsoft released an update package allowing users to finally get rid of the Microsoft Teams Chats icon in the operating system’s taskbar.
The option was welcomed by many Windows users who were so frustrated by the inclusion of an app that they wouldn’t use taking useful space in the Taskbar, that they resorted to complicated ways to get rid of the Teams icon.
However, it seems that Windows 11, at least, won’t entirely get rid of Teams, as Microsoft might add a feature that will show upcoming meetings in the Start menu, soon, according to some strings spotted by Windows enthusiast, @XenoPanther.
The strings point out to Windows Canary 26019 v 26020, so this means the change feature will probably be released in the first Canary builds of 2024. However, the spotter is not entirely sure, as these changes can be volatile.

While this is different from the Teams Chats icon in the Windows 11 taskbar, it could still potentially frustrate a lot of Windows users. The feature would be quite useful for those accessing Microosft Teams on Windows devices, as it’s clear the Redmond-based tech giant is striving for even more integration between its products and services.
However, the best solution for this feature would be to be an optional feature: those who want Teams meetings to pop up in the Start menu, can do so, and those who don’t, can always disable it.
What other features might be coming to Windows 11?
Microsoft Teams returning to Windows 11 devices would not be the only feature coming to the operating system. The spotter also noticed several other strings that point out different features that might be released in future Insider builds.
For example, snapping windows may get more features and improvements, while Windows 11 users will not receive warnings and notifications regarding several other parts of the operating system.
Snapping windows may get additional features. Credential UX Dialog Controller has several new warnings. Windows Speech Recognition now has an EOL warning.

Windows Speech Recognition has recently started its deprecation process, as Microsoft intends to fully replace it with the new Voice access capability, which recently received dozens of new improvements in Beta Channel. Based on the strings, Windows Speech Recognition will most likely be fully deprecated by the end of January 2024.
Until then, we’ll have to wait and see just how Microsoft plans to introduce Teams back to Windows 11 UI.
